🐾 ASDAN Animal Care Short Course
The ASDAN Animal Care Short Course is a calm, structured and highly engaging programme that teaches learners how to understand, care for and work safely with animals.
Created and taught by a qualified vet, this online course includes 60+ pre-recorded lessons, step-by-step activities and optional Zoom support.
Learners can work entirely at their own pace — there are no deadlines and no pressure.
All PowerPoint slides, worksheets and resources are included, and all content is designed to be SEN-friendly, visual and easy to follow.
Learners can also join optional Zoom troubleshooting sessions to ask questions, explore topics, and gain extra reassurance (camera/mic optional).
On completion, learners receive supportive moderation and an official ASDAN certificate to celebrate their achievement.
⭐ What the course covers
The Short Course is split into seven modules, each exploring a different area of animal care:
🔍 1. Animal Investigation
What different animals need to be happy and healthy, covering both pets and farm animals
🐾 2. Safety Around Animals
Handling, approaching and interacting safely including marine animals
🏡 3. Looking After Animals
Learners step inside the World of a Vet and learn how to diagnose and treat some common conditions in animals plus first aid
🚑 4. Animals in Trouble
Learning about designer pets, endangered animals and how to help wildlife or stray animals
🎬 5. Animals in the Media Exploring how animals are portrayed in films, TV and advertising, understanding the role of working animals, and looking at celebrities who support or work with animals.
⚖️ 6. Animals and the Law Animal
Thinking about animals in circuses and what laws animals might create for us!
💼 7. Careers Working with Animals
Exploring roles in veterinary care, rescue, wildlife, farming and more
Each module contains short, accessible lessons and practical activities suitable for SEND learners and learners who thrive with clear structure.

This course is typically aimed at learners aged 11+, but younger learners may enrol if working at an appropriate academic level.

This course includes a mix of virtual visits with guest experts and optional Zoom sessions with me. These sessions provide extra support, encouragement and enrichment, but they are not required to complete the course — all essential content is fully accessible through the pre-recorded lessons and resources.
Recording policy:
For safeguarding reasons, the Zoom sessions with me are not recorded. Virtual visits may or may not be recorded depending on the external provider. Attendance at either type of session is entirely optional and not needed to successfully complete the course.
