About Me — Amy, Founder of SENshine Tutoring

Hello, I’m Amy — the founder of SENshine Tutoring.

I began my professional life as a Veterinary Surgeon, graduating from the Royal Veterinary College in London. Over the past 20 years, I’ve worked in a wide variety of settings across the UK and abroad, including RSPCA hospitals, training practices, and a busy Canine Rehabilitation Hospital, where I also worked as a Veterinary Acupuncturist.

Alongside my veterinary work, my most meaningful role has been at home.

I have spent the last seven years home-educating my children, each with their own unique special educational needs, and have also experienced EOTAS with my son. This journey has given me personal insight into the challenges families face — alongside the joy, progress and possibilities that come with individualised learning.

It was this experience that inspired me to create SENshine Tutoring: a nurturing, supportive learning space where children feel understood, accepted and able to thrive.

When I’m not tutoring, I’m usually at my allotment getting muddy! I’m a keen gardener with a passion for herbal medicine, and I believe learning — much like gardening — flourishes when the right conditions, patience and encouragement are in place.

For safeguarding and professional practice, I hold an enhanced DBS check, NSPCC Safeguarding training, and have completed a range of SEND courses, including:

  • Tic Toolkit for Tourette’s (Evelina Children’s Hospital, London)

  • Early Bird Plus Autism Programme

  • Newbold Hope training on PDA, Challenging Behaviour & Communication

I also serve as a Governor at a local alternative provision supporting children with diverse SEN profiles.

At the heart of SENshine is one core belief:
Every child can thrive when they are met with patience, understanding and the right support.
